LAVAL - A man convicted of murder and serving a sentence of imprisonment escaped Tuesday Montée Saint-François, a medium security prison and a minimum of Laval.
These are correctional officers who realized that Robert Gaudette, 55, was missing when counting from 5am in the minimum security unit. "He was present at the previous account 2h," said Jean-Yves Roy, a spokesman for the Correctional Service of Canada.
Mr. Roy was not able to provide details of the circumstances surrounding the escape of the prisoner, but said an investigation has been opened into this event.
Criminal serving his sentence in 2002 after being convicted of unpremeditated murder of his wife. In 2000, Robert Gaudette had strangled his wife after returning from a softball game, before throwing the body in the garbage. The body was discovered three days later in the truck come retrievability.
The fugitive is a white man who is 1.80 m (5 ft 11 in) tall and weighs 86 kg (189 lb). He has green eyes, brown hair and a surgical scar on the abdomen.
The police were notified of his escape and an arrest warrant was issued against him.

After strangled his wife to death in 2000, Robert Gaudette had led police boat inventing a story of incredible abduction.
That's three days later he was finally arrested and accused of non-premeditated murder of Cindy Bouchard, with whom he was then in a relationship for 10 years.

Several versions
This is Robert Gaudette who contacted police after the murder. He invented a story full of twists and turns, wanting Cindy Bouchard was abducted by four Asians to whom he owed money. A major police investigation was then launched. The following day, the man changed his story several times, noting in particular that the kidnappers were rather Arabs. Over the versions, the status of Gaudette went from victim to suspect. After being arrested for making a false undertake investigation, he confessed his crime.
In May 2002, a jury found him guilty of second degree murder, without the possibility of parole for 12 years. In 2006, his appeal was rejected.
